The Allen-Bradley 1746-OBP16 is a 16-point output module in the 1746 series. The signal output of this module is 24 DC signal output. This module has 16 outputs but no inputs. Its special features are fuse protection and blown fuse diagnostics. The fuse protection feature provides short-circuit protection for 13 mm2 (16 AWG) or larger wiring to the external loads. This will prevent the transistor inside the module from getting damaged when a short circuit occurs. Keep in mind that this internal fuse only protects the module from the short-circuiting, not overloads. 




Therefore, to protect the 1746-OBP16 module from overloads, you need to install the user-supplied fuse that matches the characteristic of your load. The blown fuse diagnostic is a tool to notify the user about the fuse condition. If the fuse blows on the module, the blown fuse diagnostic will notify the user via the blown fuse LED indicator. If processor operation continues after a blown fuse, extreme care should be taken to be sure the safety of personnel and guard against equipment damage. 
The 1746-OBP16 module’s operating voltage is 20.4 – 26.4V DC (source) and it has 16 outputs with 16 common points. 




Its backplane current consumption is 250mA at 5V DC and 0mA at 24V DC. The 1746-OBP16 has a maximum signal delay of 0.1ms in the On-state and 1ms in the Off-state. Its continuous current per output and per module is 1.5A and 0A at 30°C and 1A and 6.4A at 60°C respectively. The 1746-OBP16 has a maximum Off-state leakage of 1mA and maximum thermal dissipation of 6.26 W. It has a maximum On-state voltage drop of 1V at 1A and 4A for a 10ms maximum surge current per point.
