The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1756-DHRIO communication module from the ControlLogix series of products falls under the remote I/O network module category. The 1756-DHRIO is a versatile Data Highway Plus/Remote I/O module with 57.6, 115.2, and 230.4 kilobytes per second communication rates. This remote I/O communication module is a remote I/O scanner-only version and it features 32 logical rack connections per remote I/O channel of remote I/O and 16 block-transfer connections per channel of remote I/O. This communication module supports up to 32 connections. The insulation voltage functionality includes 30 Volts continuous voltage, standard insulation, DHRIO A and a port for programming to DHRIO B , and DHRIO A/B at the backplane. It is important to note that isolation between the DHRIO A and the port for programming is not provided and the isolation type is tested at 877 Volts DC for 60 seconds. The 1756-DHRIO requires slot width of 1 and it can be installed in any slot on the chassis.

The 1756-DHRIO ControlLogix communication module can be used with chassis models with catalog numbers 1756-A4/A7/A10/A13 or -A17. Also, it can be used with standard (1756-PA72/C/PA75/B/PB72/C/PB75/B/PC75/B or -PH75/B) or redundant (1756-PA75R/PB75R or PSCA2) power supplies. In regard to power-related features, the 1756-DHRIO has 850 mA of current draw at 5.1 Volts DC, 1.7 mA of current draw at 24 Volts DC, and a power dissipation of only 4.5 Watts. Besides that, the 1756-DHRIO has thermal dissipation of 15.4 BTU per hour. In addition, the 1756-DHRIO module has two (2) ports which can be selected individually for either DH+ or remote I/O. The enclosure of the module is not rated since it is an open-style enclosure, and it has a T4A North American temperature code and a T4 IEC temperature code. The operation temperature of the module should be between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius or 32 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit while the storage temperature ranges from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit). The module can also withstand 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity.
