Two redundant C70R CPUs operate ina separately mounted controller rack,each with an independent powersupply. A Redundant Switch Module(RSM) is located in the rack betweenthe two C70R CPUs. A key switch onthe RSM allows the user to change the
operating mode of the Lead CPU.There is no I/O in the controller rack;the CPUs communicate with up to 5racks of I/O over a 100 base-TEthernet physical communication link.When more than one I/O rack is usedin the system, Ethernet switching hubs
are required, one for each Scannerconnection. In operation, all controlfunctions and host communicationexchanges are handled by the Leadcontroller, including configuration andoperator changes. The Lead controllerupdates the Reserve controller with all
the information needed to assumecontrol in the event of a fault condition.
