Plano-concave Cylindrical Lenses

Cylindrical lenses are mainly used to change the size of imaging per design requirements. Plano concave cylindrical lenses are mostly used in laser scanners, spectroscopy, dye lasers, acousto-optics, optical processors and other optical applications.

Cylindrical concave lens is also called negative cylindrical lens. Like spherical lenses, they focus light into a line rather than a point. Use a cylindrical concave lens to spread the light on-axis, and a negative cylindrical lens to spread out the collimated input light.

Plano concave lenses bend parallel input rays to diverge from one another on the output side of the lens and hence have a negative focal length. Plano concave lenses are the best choice when object and image are at absolute conjugate ratios greater than 5:1 and less than 1:5 to reduce spherical aberration, coma and distortion.
