Plano-convex Cylindrical Lenses

Cylindrical lenses are mainly used to change the size of imaging per design requirements. Plano convex cylindrical lenses are used to focus light to a thin line in the applications like laser scanners, spectroscopy, dye lasers, acousto-optics, optical processors and etc.

Plano-convex cylindrical lenses are used to compress light on the 1-axis. To generate line images from light spots and change the aspect ratio of the image, a positive (convex) cylindrical lens is used. Convex cylindrical lens is also suitable for focusing collimated input light onto a line.

The plano convex lenses can be used to focus, collect and collimate light. The asymmetry of these plano convex lenses minimizes spherical aberration in situations where objects and images are at unequal distances from the lens.
