Please the instruments on a flat worktable and the pad is placed on the lower part of the instrument.

Insert the sharpened pencil into the main hole of the instrument, and the edge of the pencil contacts the workbench, tightening the screw.

Place the instrument on the test board and push forward at a speed of about 1mm per second by force (this force either breaks the end edge of the lead or ploughs the ploughing film). Starting with the toughest pencils, each grade ploughs five traces of 3mm length until a pencil without ploughing the film. The hardness of the pencil represents the hardness of the film measured.
