Why are PCBs green?

If you are careful, you may find that most of the PCBs are green (there are fewer PCBs in black, blue, red, etc.), why is this? In fact, the board itself is brown, and the green we see is the solder mask. Solder mask is not necessarily green, there are red, yellow, blue, purple, black, etc., but green is the most common.

As for why the green solder mask is used, there are mainly the following arguments.

1) Green is less irritating to the eyes. The teacher told us from a young age that green is good for the eyes, protects the eyes, and resists fatigue. Production and maintenance personnel are not prone to eye fatigue when staring at the PCB board for a long time, and the damage to the eyes is less.
2) The cost is lower. Since green is the mainstream in the production process, the purchase volume of natural green paint will be larger, and the purchase cost of green paint will be lower than other colors. At the same time, the use of the same color paint in mass production can also reduce the cost of changing lines.
3) When the board is soldered by SMT, it needs to go through tinning and patching and the final AOI verification. These processes all need to be calibrated by optical positioning. The green background color is better for the recognition effect of the instrument.
How are PCBs designed? To manufacture a PCB, the layout design of the PCB must first be carried out.
